Kashuaet church and National gallery
St. George Kashueti Church was built in the XVlc. (builder's inscription
of l754) on the spot where St. David Garedjeli, four- apse church stood. Pulled down in
1904 to give way to a new Kashueti Church. Alexander Garden is t he first public garden in
Tbilisi. Laid out in l859 on former Alexander Square (the territory of old
"Qabakhi") under the supervision of the landscape gardener G. Sharrer. The
draft of the garden and the project of separate pavilions were drawn by O.. Simonson
(l832-l914), an architect from Tbilisi. The garden was named Alexander in honor of the
